XM Review: The Federal Reserve announced a 25 basis point interest rate cut last week, but it failed to lead other central banks to cut interest rates simultaneously. For example, on Tuesday, the Reserve Bank of Australia announced that it would keep the benchmark interest rate unchanged at 3.6%. At 20:00 today, the Bank of England will also announce the results of its latest interest rate decision. Mainstream expectations are that the Bank of England will not follow the Federal Reserve in cutting interest rates and will most likely keep the benchmark interest rate unchanged at 4.00%.

The reason behind the Federal Reserve's interest rate cut and the choice of most central banks to "not follow suit" is that the macroeconomic environment in the United States is out of touch with other countries. Because U.S. President Trump implemented a radical policy of driving away immigrants, the U.S. labor market suddenly cooled down (immigrants have the highest willingness to find jobs), and the number of new non-agricultural jobs continued to be less than 100,000. Countries such as the Eurozone, the United Kingdom, and Australia do not have similar problems and will naturally not follow the Fed in cutting interest rates.

In the third and fourth quarters of 2023, the UK experienced a quarter-on-quarter GDP decline of -0.2% and -0.3%, and was once considered by the market to be in recession. GDP growth in the second quarter of this year was 0.3%, and there is still no sign of significant improvement.

From a technical perspective, GBPUSD is in a mid-term bearish trend, and there are signs of accelerated decline since mid-October. The MA10 red moving average in the chart is a more reliable resistance line. As long as the future market is below the MA10 moving average, it can be determined that the short trend will continue. According to the prediction of the golden section expansion line, the next stage of support may appear at 2.3. Around 82~2.618 points, corresponding to 1.2880~1.2932 points.

The short trend of the pound is inconsistent with the fundamentals of "the Fed cuts interest rates but the Bank of England remains unchanged". The main reason is that the U.S. dollar index fell excessively in the first half of the year (due to interest rate cut expectations and Trump's radical policies), resulting in an "oversold rebound" in the U.S. index in the near future. Although the short-term trend of GBPUSD is bearish, the mid-term trend is bearish. The long-term bullish trend structure has not been significantly destroyed.
